Leeds United chairman confirms company sale and new title as Andrea Radrizzani agrees to merger

Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has agreed a merger with sports broadcaster DAZN to sell its streaming platform ELEVEN and abbreviated content hub Team Whistle.

Radrizzani will also join DAZN’s board of directors as executive director as part of the deal, following the sale of ELEVEN Group’s sports activities which are already present in several European markets.

A press release issued on Tuesday morning read: “DAZN Group, a leading global sports platform, today announced an agreement to acquire the global sports media business of ELEVEN Group.

“The agreement expands DAZN’s capabilities in the live sports streaming industry and establishes DAZN as a global leader in this rapidly evolving space.”

Leeds chairman Andrea Radrizzani shared his thoughts on the merger, saying: “We have developed a successful sports media company over the past six years with ELEVEN, and we are delighted that this journey will continue. The merger will provide greater opportunities as a group to continue building a global destination for sports fans, which was our mission from day one.

“Subject to the completion of the agreement, this consolidation will clearly help DAZN grow as a global leader in live sports distribution. ELEVEN management and I will work actively to support the growth of the company, contributing our collective expertise and network to further DAZN’s expansion,” he added.

Radrizzani remains committed to his responsibilities as majority shareholder of Elland Road, despite reports earlier this year that the Italian had tentatively agreed a sale price with minority shareholder group 49ers Enterprises of around 400 million of pounds sterling.

Although no figures are mentioned in the official press release, as the founder of ELEVEN, Radrizzani will be due a financial windfall following the acquisition of DAZN, having launched the company in 2015 alongside the CEO. Mark Watson.
