The Starved Rock Foundation at Starved Rock State Park is hosting a free Flight of Fancy bird photography exhibit in the Visitor Center Audio Visual Room located next to the Starved Rock Visitor Center Reception May 1-June 5 .
It will be open daily for viewing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Photographers from across Illinois submitted 81 works, which the public can view and bid on through a silent auction and photographers’ reception from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5. Photographers will be on hand to talk about their photography and skills. A quarter of all photography sales will be donated to the Starved Rock Foundation, the park’s nonprofit Friends Group that assists with educational and historical purchases for events, programs, and exhibits, as well as other items .
Funds raised will directly benefit needed repairs to the unusable audiovisual room inside the Visitor Center. The audiovisual room shows educational films about the park’s history, trails, sandstone features, bald eagles, and offers free professional presentations to the public every first Sunday from October through April. The audiovisual room has been inoperative since the end of January and ongoing repairs are estimated at $35,000.
