The EU/CoE Action on Freedom of Expression and Freedom of the Media in Kosovo (JUFREX2) organized a two-day training for staff of the Independent Media Commission from the Monitoring and Analysis and Legal Departments on 09 and December 10, 2021.
The training aimed to equip the employees of the Independent Media Commission, in particular the staff of the monitoring and analysis services and the legal services, with additional knowledge and information on the national legal standards for election monitoring and tools to carry out their duties and responsibilities. In addition, cases of breaking electoral silence and ways to identify such cases as well as other political, legal and regulatory aspects of electoral silence were discussed in depth.
The second day of the training focused on the issue related to disinformation during the election period, information disorder in the digital environment and its implications for political/election campaigns. Experts elaborated on the impact of social media and the Internet on electoral processes and the challenges of monitoring.
This action is part of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey II”, a cooperation initiative co-financed by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe, which aims to assist beneficiaries in the Western Balkan region and Turkey to comply with Council of Europe standards and the European Union acquis in the enlargement process, where applicable.
